It’s been over a year since Alana de la Garza welcomed her second child into the world — an adorable baby girl named Liv Elena — and we asked the Law & Order alum to give three pieces of advice to new Latina moms! Here’s what she had to say!

1). Never judge your body: “You have just built a human—a beautiful, full and complete addition to the universe. Love it and celebrate the miracle you are allowed to be a part of. {Having a baby} takes a toll in every way — physically, emotionally, and mentally. The last thing you need to do is compare yourself to some genetically blessed chick who represents 5% of the population.”

2). Never Judge Yourself For the Checklist You Can Never Achieve: “I remember beating myself up thinking, ‘why can’t I breastfeed 24/7, memorize my lines for work, do the laundry, work out, have dinner on the table, and end the night with some wild seduction for my husband…There are not enough hours in the day! In the first three months, if I got my shower
before 11 p.m., the day was a success. Be patient with yourself — you’ll find a rhythm and your children will live. Scrambled eggs and toast never hurt anyone…

3). Never Listen to the Eyes: “No matter if theyre real or created in your mind — if people watch you, theres a chance theyre not silently judging you. There’s a chance theyre admiring the gorgeous baby youre trying to nurse. There’s a chance theyve been the parent on the plane trying to soothe the angry angel you used to recognize as your baby. There’s a chance they’ve been there themselves. If they haven’t, they will…Or maybe their opinion just doesnt matter.
