Isabel Toledo and Ruben Toledo are making Latinos proud yet again!

The talented Tony-nominated designer — who is one of First Lady Michelle Obama’s favorite designers — and her husband Ruben (a renowned artist who has done work for Louis Vuitton), recently partnered with MAC Cosmetics on a new makeup line (and let’s just say it’s making us blush)!

Released on Feb 5, the GORGEOUS collaboration between the Cuban-American artists — and MAC — features 45 products, including mascaras, a variety of red lipsticks and glosses, ombré blushes, nail polishes and more! Isabel chose the hues for the collection, while Ruben designed the eye-catching black, white and red packaging.

We caught up with the Latino power couple to get the 411 on their latest high fashion collaboration. Here’s what they had to say!

Why did you choose to partner with MAC on this new collection?
ISABEL: We adore MAC — we’ve been friends of MAC for many years.
RUBEN: We share a birthday with MAC — we both started in business 30 years ago.
ISABEL: MAC has a very modern, fearless and intelligent approach to beauty and makeup. They have a great sense of humor and that is always chic.

People really LOVE the packaging and “the look” of this collection and Allure called it “one of the coolest, most creative collections weve seen from M.A.C.” When you were designing the packaging, what was the most important aura, feeling or mood you wanted to convey about the collection?
ISABEL: Thank you for the kind words. I really wanted to celebrate the magical power of beauty — the inner feeling women project when they feel pampered and self-loved. It’s a very empowering feeling. I love makeup for its fantasy and playful spirit; I love my husband’s artwork for his instinctive fluidity {and} MAC gave me the ability to combine what I love about both. I think the artwork on the packaging captures it perfectly.

A lot of people are also raving about the red lipsticks in your collection!
ISABEL: For me, it’s red or nothing. I love a red lip always and at any hour. It’s a matter of trying and combining the best tone for your look and mood. It’s also how you apply it that makes or breaks it — I sometimes like to dab it on or smudge a bit of gloss only in the center of my smile. For big nights out, I like to be more painted and protected to near perfection. I tried to create a Toledo-MAC Red perfect for every gorgeous mouth at every occasion I could think of.

Red is a color we definitely associate with Isabel Toledo. What does she love about red?                                 RUBEN: I met Isabel wearing red lips in high school Spanish class. She loves timeless beauty — she has always been a no-fuss kind of woman, but {she} loves to experiment with fashion and with her looks daily. She’s fearless about that and {about} many other things. Isabel is a great colorist — she can feel her way to just the right tones and combine them in very unexpected ways. To her, red lips — no matter which tone — make a woman elegant and subversive at the same time; dangerous and alluring {and} correct and edgy. It’s all a matter of tones.

Do you think Latinas in particular will like — or connect with — the collection?
ISABEL: I hope so — we come in all shapes and sizes and from such diverse geographies: the Caribbean, South America, Europe — yet we all share a common tongue and maybe a shared sense of what makes a woman a beauty. And that is her inner core — her dignity, her sense of self.
RUBEN: I think every woman is just a little bit Latina when it comes to beauty — makeup can bring that out!
