Every week we’ll tell you who’s hot in Hollywood and headed for the A-list.
We first noticed Alden Ehrenreich when he played Alec Baldwin’s son (and Cate Blanchett’s stepson, Danny) in Woody Allen’s Oscar-nominated film, Blue Jasmine. His performance in the film was electric, raw and heartfelt—a true star turn in a supporting role.
He’s only 24 and already Ehrenreich has worked with Francis Ford Coppola (“Tetro”), and starred opposite Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emmy Rossum in the 2013 romantic fantasy film Beautiful Creatures (based on the novel of the same name). He’s also set to star in a yet-to-be-titled project that’s being directed by Warren Beatty and stars Lily Collins, Chace Crawford and Alec Baldwin. Not too shabby!
Of course, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Ehrenreich is well on his way to becoming the next Jake Gyllenhaal — a handsome and charismatic character actor with commercial appeal. After all, he was discovered at the age of 14 by none other than Steven Spielberg, when the legendary director saw Ehrenreich’s work in a short film, while attending a Southern California bat mitzvah.
It also helps that Ehrenreich seems to be serious about his craft. He not only majored in theatre at NYU, but also founded the theatre and film company The Collectin with fellow actor Zoe Worth. He doesn’t work often — only when he feels challenged by a role. “For me, the drive is storytelling,” he told Interview Magazine. “To be a part of an art that tells a story and to be a catalyst, a color in that, is very exciting.”
It’s also exciting that the Los Angeles-born actor — whose mother is an interior designer and stepfather is an orthodontist — is about to become a household name. Remember the name: Alden Ehrenreich.
